Per week

Per commuting day
$3.75

Small daily drives add up. A modest commute can quietly cost thousands of dollars a year in gas — this calculator turns your one-way distance and fuel economy into the weekly, monthly, and yearly total so the real number is impossible to ignore.

What drives the cost

The yearly figure is your round-trip distance, times days commuting, times 52 weeks, divided by your MPG, times the pump price. Because every factor multiplies, improving any one of them — a shorter route, a more efficient car, one work-from-home day — compounds into real savings.

This counts fuel only. The true cost of driving also includes maintenance, insurance, and depreciation, which add several times the fuel cost per mile.

Frequently asked questions

How much does my commute cost in gas?

Multiply your round-trip distance by the days you commute and the weeks per year, divide by your MPG, and multiply by the price per gallon. This calculator does that and shows the daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly totals.

Does this include the full cost of driving?

No — it's fuel only. Maintenance, insurance, and depreciation add several times the fuel cost per mile, so your true commute cost is higher.

How can I cut my commute's gas cost?

A shorter route, a more efficient vehicle, carpooling, or even one work-from-home day per week each reduce the yearly total noticeably.
